The aims and objectives of London and Southern Counties Minerals Industries Institute, or MinSouth, are best described by the following extract from our constitution:-
“The aim of the Institute is to provide a focal point for professionals employed in the mining and related industries in the south eastern area of England, enabling its members to meet at regular intervals to exchange news and ideas.”

The Institute (MinSouth) has a Council of some 15+ members who willingly give their time to pursue these aims and objectives on behalf of the membership. Each year we plan a full and diverse programme of technical meetings, including joint meetings with the British Tunnelling Society and the S.E. branch of the Geological Society, and culminating in the Annual Prestige lecture in June. The AGM follows the traditional midsummer break and is held, together with the first General Meeting of the season, in October.
2008 will see the 50th Anniversary of the formation of our “Branch” in the South East always part of the main professional Institute. To celebrate this milestone, MinSouth are holding a celebratory lunch in April and the Annual dinner in May to mark this 50th Anniversary.
Our technical meetings continue to be interspersed with occasions of a more social nature and opportunities for networking, such as the St. Barbara’s Day Supper held in the autumn, the Annual Dinner held in May, and the Students’ Evening held in March. MinSouth will also be managing the “Sundowner” the last Thursday of each month gatherings at the Captain’s Cabin off Piccadilly.
Current details of events, times, dates and venues can be found on the events page. The events calendar is shown on the EVENTS page and all members will be advised in advance of the meetings.
